EXHIBITIONS

Initially, exhibition activities were not systematically tracked within a specific record group; instead, information about exhibitions had to be gleaned from activity reports, preserved invitations and catalogues, or articles in the local press. The practice of tracking exhibitions was initiated by the Art Gallery in 1995 with the introduction of inventory folders for exhibitions organized by that department.

With the establishment of the Documentation Service in 2000, exhibition activities began to be systematically monitored and recorded in a museum-wide database; this process involved researching and gathering documentation, tracing back to the earliest recorded exhibitions held on the museum premises. Consequently, the oldest exhibition on record—originally organized by the then-independent Art Gallery—dates back to 1948. By the end of October 2018, a total of 1,160 exhibitions had been recorded in the exhibition archives.

The Documentation Service physically and digitally stores material related to exhibitions (photos of the opening and display, invitation, poster, catalog, speech from the opening, synopsis, publications on the museum website, media publications), and metadata about the exhibitions is entered into the database and linked to other documentation funds. The data is available to external users upon request. In addition to the S++ module, data on current exhibitions, as well as exhibitions from earlier years, are available via the exhibition search engine on the museum's website.
